Of course this is legal! This is America, remember - freedom of speech? You
are entitled to give your opinion on a legal case and lawyers, with their
client's consent, are free to share their cases with you.
At times, for reasons of confidentiality, lawyers might change the names of a
case to protect his client's confidentiality. And of course, your agreement
to keep what you hear confidential is also a necessity.
How often can I do this?
You can opt to be notified about cases as often as once a week. In the early
months of service, however, there may not be enough cases in your area to
call you that often and so you may not be called for weeks at a time.
One other option you will have soon is to come to the "courthouse" without
being called and to review cases placed in the public gallery. Cases in this
area will be for lawyers who cannot pay the price of our typical case - and
these may include lawyers representing indigent defendants in criminal
trials. You can visit the case gallery as often as you'd like. When there
are enough cases there, this may be a good way for you to make a few extra
dollars each week.
Please note - since we record IP addresses and do not permit more than one
account per IP address, you cannot sign up under multiple e-mail accounts and
be paid more than once on a case.
How much will I get paid?
How much you get paid will depend on the case, but usually between $20 and
$50 per case. The longer the case presentations, the longer the
questionnaire, the more you'll get paid. You will be informed up front as to
how much the case fee is and how long your time commitment will be, usually
between 20-50 minutes.
How will I get paid?
You will have several options for payment. If you choose, you may be paid by
PayPal, an online payment service. You also have the option of being paid by
check.
How long before I get paid?
Checks and online payments will be processed within 7 business days after the
case and in some cases within two business days. We hope to improve the
speed of payment as our service develops.
How do I listen to case presentations?
Once you are registered, you will be entered into our pool of eligible
jurors. When a case beomes available to you, you will receive an e-mail with
"e-juror summons" in the title from the following address:
jurycommissioner@jurytest.net. When you open this mail, you will see a link
to jurytest.net. Come to the site, log-in and you will be taken to a page
with a link to the case presentation. When you click on this link, this will
launch a realplayer interface and the case presentation will stream. At the
end of the presentation, you will close this window and be prompted to answer
a few questions. Some lawyesr will present TWO presentations, one on each
side of the case. In those instances, you will answer a few questions after
each presentation. Naturally, the more there is to it, the more you will be
paid.
